I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.First off, let me say that Melissa’s Seaside Summers books are my favorite and this one had some pretty high expectations to live up to for it to qualify as one of my favorites.
In all honesty, it was hard for me to get an understanding of where the author was going with it. The beginning felt choppy and crazy busy. There were so many aspects of the characters showing up at random times it was a little difficult to stay focused. There were times I had to go back and reread parts because I thought I had missed something. But I kept going. Eventually, about 1/3 of the way into the book everything starts to link together and the story begins to flow better. You lose yourself in the story instead of wondering what the heck is going on because it’s all making sense now. And it only gets better from there. So.much.better.
Jana is crazy busy and her life is choppy, so it was fitting that the story began that way. I felt like I was living her chaotic life right with her as I struggled to understand what was going on just as much as she was. She has some insecurity buried deep down which she hides from everyone under her “strong girl” persona. But Hunter, even though he has got to be THE most arrogant and stubborn man, can see her insecurities and is determined to help her overcome them. Not always in the right way, but hey, he’s trying, right? Sometimes I caught myself yelling at him, “Are you joking?! You just said that to her and you expect her to want you?” And she does!! Why!? Because Hunter and Jana are the perfect match, that’s why. Although they’re both stubborn and hard-headed, sparks fly and you can feel their heat and hunger for each other. They feed off each other’s anger and frustrations, yet complement and need each other in the same breath.
When the Seaside crew comes into play, that’s when the book becomes a true Seaside Summers book. Catching up with the gang and their new families just flowed perfectly. Everyone seemed to pick up right where we left them with no questions about adding a new friend. That’s what I love about them. They all have the biggest hearts and amazing sense of humor. I’ve never laughed so hard at a book. The prank that takes place in this story is epic. I had to go back and reread it again to make sure I didn’t miss anything because I had tears from laughing. Jana and Hunter fit right in with the rest of the gang.
This has been one of the most frustrating books for me to read. I had a hard time in the beginning with Jana, and Hunter just down right pissed me off. Then they showed us a different side of themselves and I fell in love. And in the next chapter I was back to severely disliking them again. This story not only plays with their emotions, it messes with your own as well. Yay for an emotional, drag-out, fight-to-the-end, fall in love, romance. There’s nothing better!!

Wow - I have been reading Melissa's books for a long time now, and I got totally addicted to the Bradens and the Remingtons... Then I fell in love with the Seaside books and have read each of them at least twice, so I was really looking forward to this one...
But this book from the beginning felt more like the new adult series (e.g. Catching Cassidy) From the start, it was lots of hot sex scenes strung together with what for me felt like a very repetitious plot line. I like sexy scenes or I wouldn't be reading Melissa's work, but this just felt like way too much to me... too much foul language, too much sex, and not enough character and story development. While I really came to like Hunter, I could not warm up to Jana's character enough to understand why Hunter was so taken with her!! It's the first time I've ever literally skimmed past pages of a Foster book to see if it picked up. I see from the other reviews posted that I am very much in the minority and most regular readers loved it, but this one really left me feeling disappointed after the others that I loved so much!!
I still gave it 3 stars because it had a few great scenes and fun moments - it just wasn't up to the caliber of the stories of Bella and Caden, Jenna and Pete or Jessica and Jamie...
Melissa Foster has done it again. Her stories pull you right into the plot and her characters are complex & believable. The central characters in this story are Jana Garner, a waitress/dance instructor/female boxer and Hunter Lacroux, a metal sculptor/artist. Jana and Hunter hang around with the same group of friends and seem to manage to hook up occasionally. Jana is frustrated with her life. Her boss at the dance studio has been out of town setting up another location and leaving all of the administrative & marketing chores along with her teaching. She is training for a boxing match & is in emotional turmoil from her frequent hook ups with Hunter.
Hunter runs Grunter's Ironworks, a metalworking business with his brother Grayson. He is in the process of designing an entry for the sculpture portion of a beautification project in town. His friends Clark & Nina are having some marital issues and so Clark is rooming with Hunter on a temporary basis. As Hunter tries to counsel Clark and help him see the marriage is worth saving, he begins to have stronger feelings towards Jana. Jana actually ends up being the inspiration for his sculpture. He just has to get beyond his reputation and Jana's feelings that she doesn't deserve more than a hook up.
This book is another great installment of the Seaside Summers series. All of these books can be read as stand alones but the same cast of characters show up off and on in all of them. Melissa keeps you so involved in all of their lives that you feel like they are real. I can't wait for Grayson's story!
